The Eagle Point Museum is located at 202 North Royal, in the heritage district of Eagle Point, Oregon. The museum has a large and notable collection of physical
artifacts, photographs and heritage materials directly related to the
history of Eagle Point. Originally the Long Mountain School House built in
1925, the building was moved to Eagle Point in about 1945. It continued
in use as a school later consolidating with other schools as District 9. The Eagle Point Historical Society was founded in 1976. In 1978, the community joined together and moved the
building to its present location at 202 North Royal Avenue on land donated by Ed Dahack and opened
the Eagle Point Museum that same year. Later additions were made to the building in 1993 and 1996.
The Eagle Point Historical Society newsletters from the 1990s through the 2000s reflect the families that have lived in the area for generations. You'll find the names Dahack, Harnish, Wolgamott, Kuyper, Beebe and many others. Barbara Hegne, was the curator of the museum and edited the Rusty Relic newsletter. With the loss of county funding in 2008, the City of Eagle Point agreed to assume financial and administrative responsibility for the museum and the historical society was dissolved. Since that time, the City of Eagle Point has made improvements to the museum and has managed staffing to keep the museum open to the public. This digitization project was completed with the support of Southern
Oregon University as part of the Stories of Southern Oregon collection
on YouTube, in the SOU Southern Oregon Digital Archives and in the
Internet Archives and with the permission of the Eagle Point Museum. Some issues of the newsletter were found at the Eagle Point
Museum; more issues will be added as discovered.
